Care Manual

On Canvas

My paintings are created using high quality artist’s acrylic paint and they are sealed individually using a clear gloss acrylic varnish, which helps protect the artwork from UV damage and humidity and evens out differences of shine in the paint. This varnish is designed to stay clear and colourless and it will not result in a yellow discolouration of the paintings.

These paintings are created on stretched canvas, which if hung properly and with minimal handling, should remain stretched tightly and keep their shape. However, if you notice that the wood has warped over time or the canvas has become loose, please take it to a framing store that specialises in restoring painting and re-stretching canvases.

The canvases are ready to hang and do not require framing. A wire has been attached to the back of the frame for easy hanging, just simply hang from a hook on the wall and use a level to make sure it’s even. Tip: you can apply some rubber bump-ons or some felt adhesive pads to each corner to prevent your wall from being scratched by the staples.

Please avoid touching or handling the surface of the painting, as your skin oils can damage the artwork with prolonged handling. To move and hold your painting please handle it by the sides or by the wire in the back, and use cotton gloves to be extra careful. ( They are provided with the painting)

Keep your painting at room temperature (21 C / 70 F). Extreme heat or cold can damage your artwork. Do not hand in direct sunlight, as UV light can create damage and cause colours to fade. Smoking next to the painting will also cause damage to the paint surface. Avoid hanging the painting in an area exposed to water (bathroom, kitchen, etc).

A safe way to remove dust and debris from the surface of your painting is to use compressed air, or alternatively you can use a damp microfibre cloth with water only to gently wipe the surface. DO NOT USE ANY CLEANING PRODUCTS on the canvas, as most of them contain either bleach or ammonia and they can damage your artwork permanently. If you need a deep clean, please take the artwork to a professional cleaning service that knows how to handle fine art.

If cared for properly, your artwork will last decades so you can enjoy them for generations!

How to care for your paintings

On Paper/ On Cardboard

If you bought one of my paper or cardboard paintings you should know that they are painted using high quality artist’s acrylic paints and sealed with a clear gloss varnish to protect the paint from UV damage and humidity and also to enhance the colours.

The best way to care for these paintings is to frame them, or keep them in a binder.

If you choose to frame the painting, make sure you buy a frame that’s slightly bigger than the painting, and do not allow the paper to touch the glass! ( you can do this by getting a frame mat and taping/fitting the painting to it) Make sure to clean, remove any dust and dry the glass before closing the frame to prevent debris attaching to the paper.

Do not use cleaning solutions as they will permanently damage the artwork!

Keep away from direct sunlight and water or very humid environments. UV damage can cause discolouration, even after the paintings are sealed. Keep paintings in a dry environment to prevent water damaging the paper or mold forming.

If cared for properly, your artwork will last decades so you can enjoy them for generations!
